Reducing takeaway: how to break out of the order rhythm
When you're tired, stressed or just done, your phone lands in the delivery app. That's human. But it makes a calm rhythm hard — and adds up financially and food-wise quickly.
Goal: one fewer order per week. For that: a small emergency shelf at home (frozen veg, eggs, bread, hummus). Better options when you do order. No second order on the same evening.
Why you order often
Rarely real hunger. Usually: exhaustion, no time, no plan B in the fridge.
That means: you're not fighting 'laziness', you're building better default decisions.
One fewer order per week
Instead of 'this week I'll order nothing': one fewer than usual.
If you normally order 4×: target 3×. If 7×: target 5×. Realistic, doable, visible.
Hold that 2–3 weeks. Then one more fewer.
Emergency shelf at home
You don't need stockpiling — just 5–6 things that together make a meal:
Frozen veg, eggs, good bread, hummus, pasta, a tomato sauce, a piece of cheese.
With those you can make a real meal in 10 minutes. Important: store them visibly, not at the back.
Realistic no-cook options
When cooking really won't happen today:
Bread with cheese + tomato + apple. Yogurt with oats + banana. Skyr with berries. Hummus + thawed frozen veg. Reheated leftovers from yesterday.
All of those are real meals, not emergency hacks.
When you do order
Order better, instead of disciplining it away heroically: bowl instead of double fries, burger without the menu, no dessert, water instead of soda.
No second order on the same evening — no matter what.
- Plan one fewer order than usual this week.
- Buy 5–6 plan-B foods you can combine in 10 minutes.
- If you order today: better option, regular size, no second order.
- 01This week: one fewer order.
- 02Next week: two fixed days without ordering.
- 03Mid/long term: ordering becomes the exception, not the default.
Ordered when you didn't want to? No drama. Drink water with it, skip the dessert, normal breakfast tomorrow. Reset doesn't mean 'today didn't happen', it means 'tomorrow continues normally'.
